Climate and Politics
In his speech, Prof Bengtsson discusses the science of global warming, and how the political and economical aspects have lead to debate that indirectly affect the science of climate change.
He discusses 6 critical statements that oppose climate change for the sake of appeasing policy makers, i.e. opposing climate change because of economical implications.
He summarises that the ethics of science, free access to data, damaging sensationalist statements from self-proclaimed "experts" (journalists), and a declining standard of science and mathematical education have all led to the present situation. He concludes that these have allowed allowed to for the climate "debate" to escalate to a state of mediocrity, which he characterises as embarrassing.
